Combined Mega Millions, Powerball Jackpots Reach Nearly $1.2 Billion

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Lottery officials said the combined lottery jackpots of the state’s major games on Friday and Saturday had crossed the $1 billion mark.
No one has won the Mega Millions or Powerball jackpots since mid-to-late April, so they have been growing. Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot will be around $427 million, while the Powerball jackpot was expected to be about $590 million. The lottery expects the Powerball one-time cash payout to be close to $305 million while the Mega Millions one-time cash payout to jump to around $221 million. Both estimated jackpot amounts were determined before taxes are withheld, officials noted.
Charlie McIntyre, the executive director of the lottery, said Fourth of July weekend sales were “strong,” according to retailers. Online ticket sales, too, he said, had “seen a lift, as well.” McIntyre added, “We are looking forward to closing out this week with two huge jackpots — and hopefully with two big New Hampshire winners.”
While the jackpots were large, they aren’t historic quite yet. Officials said the largest Powerball jackpot on record was $2.04 billion in November 2022. It is also the largest lottery jackpot in world history. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $1.537 billion in October 2018.
Mega Millions drawings occur on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Powerball drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Tickets are on sale at more than 1,200 retailers statewide and online at NH iLottery. Nearly $2.5 billion in lottery funds have financed schools in New Hampshire.
