Colorado's Golden Nugget Casino Opens Soon As It Takes Over Wildwood

The Wildwood Hotel and Casino in Cripple Creek will soon be no more. It will be the Golden NuggetCasino.
Dubbed “the highest casino in the world,” the facility is undergoing a facelift and name change after Fertitta Entertainment bought the resort at the base of Pike’s Peak last year. The official grand re-opening as Golden Nugget will happen this summer.
Though Cripple Creek is a tiny town of little more than 1,000 year-round residents, the Golden Nugget will be one of the state’s largest casinos. It houses 500 slot machines, with many new ones added for the re-opening.
Fertitta bought the Wildwood last December for $43 million
Colorado sports . All of them are in the three mountain towns of Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. Online casinos in Colorado are prohibited, but there has been some talk about possibly legalizing them in the near future.
Fertitta Entertainment, which purchased Wildwood last December, has promised a “NEW LOOK, NEW REWARDS, NEW RESTAURANTS, NEW SLOTS, AND MORE,” according to its website. The redevelopment will include a new lounge called Bar46, as well as a Saltgrass Steakhouse, new gaming tables, a Bean & Bread coffee house and cafe, and furnishings.
Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Houston Rockets, purchased Wildwood Hotel and Casino for a reported sum in the neighborhood of $43 million. The purchase includes all amenities, including the casino and gaming floor, a 101-room hotel, and an adjacent restaurant.
Fertitta owns several other gaming properties elsewhere in the US, all of them branded Golden Nugget. Fertitta’s other gaming establishments are in Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV; Atlantic City, NJ; Biloxi, MS; and Lake Charles, LA.
Visitors to Golden Nugget in Cripple Creek will be able to see a part of history. The “biggest golden nugget in existence,” according to Golden Nugget Casinos, will be on display at the casino. It’s reportedly the second-largest nugget ever discovered.
For Colorado sports bettors, Woody’s Sportsbook is still open and Golden Nugget hasn’t made an announcement regarding the sportsbook.
