Betting Brits could be forced to surrender payslips to gambling regulators

Gambling Commission wants punters who bet and lose more than £100 a month to undergo "affordability checks" and be placed on a "gambling register" so their outgoings can be tracked. Critics slammed the plan, with one saying: "Only nonces should end up on registers - not poker players".

Betting Brits could be forced to surrender their payslips to gambling regulators. The Gambling Commission is considering the proposal. Whitehall insiders say there are no immediate plans to create a database of every bet placed by punters.

Gaming minister John Whittingdale hinted at the measures last month in a debate with MPs. He is working closely with the Gambling Commission on its parallel work to improve how operators interact with customers.
