Some Sin City casinos require employees to cover up again. Nevada struggles to contain surging COVID-19 cases.

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has advised people to wear masks in public spaces, including casinos. Since mid-June, there have been more than 400 new COVID-19 cases reported in Nevada. On July 15, 938 new cases were reported across Nevada, the biggest single-day spike since February.

MGM Resorts International has imposed a mask wearing policy on its employees as of July 16. Some casinos offer free masks to visitors. The industry suffered huge losses under shutdowns when the pandemic first broke loose in March 2020. May casinos posted a record gaming win of $1.23bn for the state.

After months of shutdowns, Nevada's casinos are operating at full capacity. The pent-up demand for travel to Vegas shows no sign of letting up.

In May, the removal of masks and barriers in several Nevada casinos prompted a comment via Twitter from poker pro Jeff Sluzinski. MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle called the eased restrictions a significant milestone. Nevada posted its record gaming win in the same month the masks were removed.
