The Stupid Way I Lost $170 In 5 Minutes in Vegas Without Gambling

When you take a trip to Las Vegas like Michele and I did during my vacation last week, you expect to lose some money. I ended up losing $170 in a matter of minutes while at breakfast without even gambling a cent in the casino.

That's not all I lost though. I went with $300 that I planned to gamble with, mostly by playing Black Jack on one of the live dealer arena setups that a lot of casinos have in Vegas. They are great for novice players like me who still are learning the game and don't like being told by other people at the real blackjack tables that I'm playing wrong. Plus it's only a $5 minimum bet, so I can play for pretty much our whole stay on $300.

I did drop some money in the Press Your Luck Slot Machine though and won a little over $100.

But the $170 I lost wasn't at the blackjack table or the slots. It was because of my own stupidity.

I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and saw that the Las Vegas Raiders were playing the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason game. It was listed as the Jaguars vs. the Raiders, and we were right near the stadium.

So I went to the Allegiant Field website, the home of the Raiders, and quickly grabbed two tickets to the game, since there weren't many left, for a total of $170. This would be perfect! Seeing an NFL game while we're in Vegas!

As I ordered the tickets on my phone, I was warned several times that under no circumstances are these tickets refundable. I was cool with that. Why would I want a refund?

I finished the transaction and it showed my tickets for the Jaguars vs. the Raiders at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. That's right. Ohio! This was the Hall of Fame Game that is not played at either of the teams' home fields. I had two seats at Hall of Fame Stadium in Ohio and the kickoff was in about 5 hours. I'm pretty sure all the blood drained out of my face at that point.

Needless to say, there were two empty seats at that game and I was out $170. Instead, Michele bought tickets to Penn & Teller and it was a great show. It's four days later and I still don't know how won the Hall of Fame game, nor do I care. My mind is still stuck on the fact that I flushed $170 down the toilet. Ugh.
