A Melbourne woman’s start to the week is no doubt better than yours after she discovered she had become a multi-millionaire overnight.

On Sunday night, a mystery ticket nabbed the only division one winning entry in the Set for Life lottery draw.

The win came with a prize of $4.8 million paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years – hence the title, ‘Set for Life’.

The next morning, lottery officials tracked down the woman, located in the Melbourne suburb of Melton West, and delivered the life changing news.

When The Lott staff member called the Victorian this morning, she was waiting patiently by the phone to have her winning news confirmed.

“I’m so nervous right now,” the winning woman laughed. “Oh my god, Oh my god, thank you. I can’t believe it. Jesus. This is incredible.”

The lucky woman revealed that she’d only spent a year buying lottery tickets before nabbing the jackpot.

“I started playing Set for Life about a year ago. I play each week and I usually check the numbers when I’m in bed to see if I’ve won,” she recounted to The Lott over the phone.

“I’d woken up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep so I jumped on my iPad and checked my online account to see if I’d won anything in the draw.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won division one. It was crazy. I woke up my partner straight away and told him.

“He didn’t believe me. He was very unsure about the whole thing, and he kept thinking it was just a dream.

“We didn’t sleep a wink after that. We kept checking the ticket to make sure it was real. It’s amazing.”

Australia’s latest lottery winner has an idea of what to do with all her new-found cash.

“Since we couldn’t sleep, we just sat up talking about what we’ll do with the money,” she said. “We’re definitely planning to buy a house and we’d like to upgrade our cars.

“There will be a few holidays as well. We’d love to do an overseas trip this year.

“We’ll certainly take it a bit easier too and use the prize to really enjoy our lives. Then we’ll save some for the future.

“We’ve got a really nice bottle of wine in the fridge that we’ve been saving for a special occasion. I guess this is the special occasion.”

The Melburnian’s winning numbers were 6, 20, 14, 25, 26, 4 and 19, while the supplementary numbers were 11 and 21.

This marks the 93rd Set for Life division one winner nationally since the game began and the second Set for Life division one winner so far this calendar year.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 255 so far this financial year.

In the 12 months to June 30, 2021, there were 16 Set for Life division one winners across Australia who will receive $76.8 million during the next 20 years.
