Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate over $165 million in gaming revenue in September, contributing $69 million to the state.

According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, September casino gaming revenues were up $21.7 million (15 percent) compared to September 2020, when gaming revenue was $144 million. Casinos were limited to 50 percent capacity in September 2020 due to COVID-19.

Contributions from last month’s casino gaming revenue totaled $69 million, including $50.1 million for the Education Trust Fund. Casino gaming revenues also support local communities and jurisdictions where the six casinos are located and Maryland’s horse racing industry.

In 2018, Maryland voters approved an amendment to the State Constitution to safeguard State video lottery terminal revenues for education purposes.

As described in the bill and the ballot question, supplemental funding must total at least $125 million in fiscal 2020, $250 million in fiscal 2021, and $375 million in fiscal 2022. 100 percent of the gaming revenues dedicated to public education must be supplemental funding in each year thereafter.
