Grand Rapids Woman Wins $150,000 Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

A Grand Rapids woman feels relieved after winning a $150,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Lisa Jekel, 50, matched the four white balls and the Powerball – 02-18-56-60-65 PB:14 – in the August 27 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $150,000. She bought her winning ticket at D&W Quick Stop, located at 6799 Cascade Road Southeast in Grand Rapids.
“I play Powerball often and I always add the Power Play option to my ticket,” said Jekel. “A few days after the drawing I was checking some tickets at the store and kept getting a message to file a claim on one of my Powerball tickets.
“I checked the winning numbers for that drawing on the Lottery app and couldn’t believe it when I realized I’d won $150,000! I just stood there in shock and felt completely numb.”
Jekel recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. She plans to save her winnings for retirement.
“Winning is such a relief and will provide a nice financial cushion for retirement,” said Jekel.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on August 3. One ticket bought in Pennsylvania won the $206.9 million jackpot. The current jackpot stands at $206 million.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.
