Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the authorities are considering draft rules that would ban Goan residents from casinos.

An amendment to the Goa Gambling Act would mean that only foreigners can enter casinos.

The state’s floating casinos are located on the Mandovi River in the Panaji area. Authorities had the intention of moving the boats but have yet to identify a suitable location.

Sawant said the home department has allowed the offshore casinos to operate on the Mandovi River until March 31 or until an alternative site is found, whichever is earlier.

Goa has seven off-shore casinos in the Mandovi and a dozen on-shore gambling outlets operating in five-star hotels.
