The American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173 in Tamaqua recently donated $1,030 to the Tamaqua Emergency and Rescue Squad No. 1 from funds raised through bingo games. From left: Kim Betz, Brian Turner, Ray Swartz and Chrissy Ristilla, all bingo volunteers; Matt Hill, chief, and Jeremy Westwood, captain, both from the rescue squad; and Richard Hadesty, bingo volunteer. Missing from photo are Wendy Perla, bingo volunteer, and Bob Derr, rescue squad director. Each year, Legion bingo volunteers select a community organization or worthy cause to donate to. Bingo usually runs about nine or 10 months each year, and proceeds from one special game each week are set aside to donate. It has amounted to thousands of dollars raised to meet community needs over the past few years. This bingo fundraiser is separate from charitable contributions the Legion, Sons' of the American Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary make each year. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
