There has been a wave of online gambling legislation in the US since the turn of the decade. New York and Florida are the next states to legalize online betting. California will legalize it in 2022.

Californian voters could give online gambling the green light in November 2022. One initiative is already on the ballot. Tribal casinos want sports betting to be allowed only on their native lands and on licensed racetracks.

The California Cities Gaming Authority is seeking signatures for an initiative that would see 26% of sports betting profits directed towards combating homelessness and protecting mental health. The Cities Initiative would also open sports wagering to every entity licensed to conduct gaming in California, including Indian tribes and professional sports teams. It would open up the possibility of online gambling and local sports franchises running their own sportsbooks.

There is one initiative on the ballot in California to legalize online gambling in 2022. It would be restricted to qualified gaming entities that offer digital sports betting in at least 10 U.S. jurisdictions and operates 12 casinos in the U.,S., and five live digital platforms in U,S.:. Tribal casinos could also run their own online sportsbooks. The proposed bill would see 26% of revenue going towards homelessness and mental health causes.
