The Gaming and Lotteries Act 2019 was passed and signed into law on the 21st of December. It resulted in several changes in terms of licensing for gaming and lotterie in Ireland. Offshore lottery operators may be exempted from the Act. The 2019 Act was described by the government as an interim measure for the more comprehensive legislative reform for Ireland's gambling industry.
The Gambling Control Bill should be launched by this year. It commits to establishing a gambling regulator that prioritizes public safety and well-being. The law also aims to provide provisions on modern licensing and regulations in the Irish gambling industry. It's common among countries to amend or overhaul gambling laws. Cayman Islands used the same law enacted in 1963 for years.
