UK Authorities Are Under Scrutiny After the Gambling Act Review Delay

The Gambling Act Review has been delayed until spring 2022. Campaigners warn that the delay could lead to more suffering.

The review of the Gambling Act 2005 was supposed to start in 2019, but the delay is due to the National Lottery license issue. The UK G gambling commission is expected to announce the winner in February. Camelot has been running the lottery since 1994. The Department of Culture, Media and Sport declined to comment on the matter.

Gambling Act review has been delayed for too long. The delay may be due to the recent ministerial changes. Chris Philip, the new minister, said that a white paper will be released in the next month. The original plan was for the whitepaper to be published in 2020, but it was later bumped to 2021. There is a need to crack down on online gambling.

Good to see former DCMS Minister @CPhilpOfficial still supporting greater regulation of the gambling industry ahead of the long awaited White Paper. Contrary to what industry are saying, increasing legislation within the regulated market won't drive customers to a black market.
