The legal status of gambling in Thailand has been a hot topic for a while. Five casinos have been proposed by the National Assembly Committee. Official proposes to the House are scheduled for this November.
Thailand is a well-developed tourist destination. The Assembly Committee is conducting a feasibility study of integrated resorts with legal casinos in Thailand. Gambling is illegal in the country except on horse race bets and the government-sponsored Thai lottery. Kla party wants to see legal gambling expanded in Thai as well.

It would be a legal gambling industry that would attract tourists and generate additional revenue for the Thai government. All forms of gambling would still be allowed and available. The Committee has a November deadline to make an official proposal to House of Representatives. They would need to amend the Gambling Act to reflect that. People 20 years or older would only be able to play there.

Illegal gambling is a well-established underground industry in Thailand. The government is not making money off gambling. It costs money to fight this underground scene. By making gambling legal, it might actually become a double positive. The Lake Pine Resort in Nakhon Ratchasima was arrested earlier this month for running illegal online gambling websites.
