The impact of gambling normalisation on young people will be explored during an online event next week to mark Gambling Harm Awareness Week.

The event, organised by Hume council, Gambler’s Help Northern and the Alliance for Gambling Reform will feature keynote speakers discussing the impact gambling has on young people.

Deakin University Institute for Health Transformation’s public health professor Samantha Thomas will speak about the latest research into young people’s views on and experience with gambling.

She will be joined by The Deakin Melbourne Boomers general manager Christy Collier-Hill who will speak about saying no to sports betting sponsorship and the impact this has on young people.

ReSPIN Gambling Awareness Speakers Bureau’s Paul will share his lived experience of gambling addiction and harm, beginning with betting coins on mah-jong with family at age eight.

The event is on Monday, October 18, 1.30-3pm via Zoom.
