Sportsbet has been convicted of gambling advertising breaches and fined $135,000. Liquor & Gaming NSW has started more than double the number of prosecutions this year. Online betting is increasing. The majority of the community is not happy with the current style of wagering advertising. 81% believe gambling ads increase the risk of developing a gambling problem.
Sportsbet was fined $22,000 for illegal gambling advertising breaches. It is an offence to unlawfully provide gambling advertisements directly after the account holder withdraws consent to receive such advertisements. SportsBet has the right to appeal against the sentence. The maximum penalty for these offences is $110,00. Government-led programs and campaigns aim to counteract gambling ads.
Sportsbet has been fined again for illegal gambling ads. The ads were sent to account holders after they withdrew consent to receive direct marketing.
