A new lottery could see residents win up to £25,000 while helping out some good causes.

The South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership (SELCP) has announced the launch of South & East Lincolnshire Community Lottery for autumn time.

People will be able to purchase tickets online while supporting charities or fundraisers of their choice. Tickets will cost £1 a week.

A draw will be made weekly with a jackpot of £25,000 - with other prizes being £2,000, £250 and £25.

Before the scheme kicks off, charitable organisations will be invited register to raise funds with the lottery - and keep 50%% from every ticket they sell.

A further 10% from every ticket will go into a central fund that will be distributed to more good causes, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Gary Taylor, South Holland District Council's portfolio holder for communities and facilities, said he and other councillors 'delighted' that the lottery is going ahead.

“We have seen how other councils have launched similar initiatives and how their communities have benefited as a result. It will provide our people with support and also another tool to empower themselves," Coun Taylor said.

“We look forward to witnessing the same impact in South & East Lincolnshire.”

Lottery management company Gatherwell has been appointed by SELCP to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries elsewhere.

Regular updates on the progress of South & East Lincolnshire Community Lottery will be posted on the Boston, South Holland and East Lindsey District Council websites and Facebook pages.
