SJM confirms reopening of Casino Oceanus

SJM Resorts has confirmed the reopening of Casino Oceanus – located near the ferry terminal on the Macau peninsula – on 9 October following a thorough cleaning and inspection by the Health Bureau.

Casino Oceanus was, although SJM said at the time that the gaming areas in the connecting Jai Alai building and Hotel Jai Alai remained open for business. The case was one of four cases announced in the preceding days and linked to an earlier outbreak of COVID-19 among security guards at a Macau quarantine hotel.

With Casino Oceanus operational again, SJM said Monday that it strictly adheres to the pandemic prevention and control measures of the Macau SAR Government to ensure a safe and hygienic environment, safeguarding the health and safety of employees, guests and the entire Macau community.”

A range of other public entertainment venues across the SAR remain closed, however, including cinemas, theaters, indoor amusement parks, video game arcades, internet cafes, billiard and bowling rooms, sauna and massage establishments, beauty salons, gyms, health clubs, karaoke establishments, bars, nightclubs, discos, dance halls and cabarets.

That’s despite a third round of mass COVID-19 testing for all people in Macau, completed last Thursday, returning no further positive results.

No COVID-19 fatalities have occurred in Macau since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020.
