Premium Bonds are a monthly lottery-style draw with two jackpot wins of £1million. 21 million people own at least one. From April 1, winners of the jackpots will be forwarded to financial advisers. NS&I has been signposting jackpots to Matrix Capital for the past 8 years. Now it wants to give customers more choice. It will refer interested jack pot winners to a list of 8,000 qualified advisers, who will charge a fee.
Premium Bonds are worth £25 each month. The odds of a bond winning each monthly are 34,500 to 1 for every £1 invested. People with the lowest holdings at NS&I have a 1 in 1,380 chance of winning anything every month, but the majority of the prizes are for £ 25.
