Philippines online gambling at risk as senator calls for ban

Joel Villanueva introduced a bill on Monday seeking an outright ban on online gambling in the Philippines. The bill enjoys bipartisan support. It would outlaw all forms of online betting and bring a jail term of up to six months and a fine of $500,000.

Philippines is a leading light in online gambling regulation in Asia. President Rodrigo Duterte spoke out against online gaming when he took office in 2016. The industry regulator, PAGCOR, sought to improve regulation and raise tax revenue through its POGO scheme. PPGO has been put on hold recently, but the sector has reopened for business.

AGCOR wants to work with law enforcement agencies to help stamp out kidnappings. The Philippines National Police recorded 27 kidnapping cases so far this year. 20 of those were POGO-related.

AGS is flying 300 top affiliates to Malta for an all-inclusive deluxe trip. The event will take place during SiGMA Europe 14-18th November.
