A person who bought a Powerball ticket at a California gas station has won the record-breaking $2bn jackpot.

The winner of the record-breaking $2bn Powerball jackpot was a gas station owner in Altadena, California. He has already received a $1m check for selling the winning ticket. The winner can take a 29-year annuity or a lump sum of $997.6m.

The Powerball draw was delayed for ten hours. The draw has been moved to Tuesday instead of the regularly-scheduled Monday night. Lottery officials say the delay is necessary to protect the integrity of a draw.

There was a huge interest in the Powerball lottery. 62% of the possible number combinations were covered for Tuesday's draw. Poker professional Shaun Deeb organized a large PowerBall pool that bought 50,000 tickets to try to win the $2bn jackpot. The previous record PowerBALL jackpots were $1.6bn shared in 2016 by three winners in Tennessee, Florida and California.
