Pennsylvania casino revenue jumps to $429M in July after late spring lull

Pennsylvania casinos saw an increase in revenues last month, state regulators said, a shift from the gradual decrease felt across the industry since the record-breaking month of March.

In all, casinos generated more than $429 million in revenues in July, according to a report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. That’s $39.2 million more than the $389.8 million recorded in June, and $5.4 million more than revenues recorded last July.

The increase comes after the state’s casinos saw a gradual decline throughout the summer after posting $462.7 million in March, the highest monthly sum to date.

Total tax revenue generated last month through all forms of gambling and fantasy contests totaled $177.1 million.

Of the state’s 16 licensed casinos, Parx Casino in Bucks County saw the highest revenue total in July, bringing in more than $56.3 million.

Locally, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh saw revenue reach $33.3 million. Of that, slot machines brought in $24.5 million, with more than $7.4 million generated from table games.

Sports betting at the North Shore casino brought in $1.2 million, which is $336,783 more than June, when it generated $949,153.

In all, the casino saw $17.1 million wagered through retail and online sportsbooks.

At Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Washington County, revenue totaled $21.9 million.

The facility brought in $14.8 million from slot machines and $2.5 million from table games. It saw $4.5 million from sports betting, which is $2.6 million more than the $1.9 million recorded in June. In all, $76.7 million was wagered through sports bets in July, officials said.

Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Fayette County generated more than $2.1 million, $1.9 million of which came from slot machines and $219,042 from table games.

Live! Casino Pittsburgh at Westmoreland Mall saw revenue reach $9.7 million. Of that, $8.3 million came from slot machines, $1.3 million from table games and $36,277 from retail sports wagering. That’s a $27,464 decrease from June, when sports betting generated $63,741.

The Hempfield facility saw $509,547 generated on sports bets in July.

In casinos across the state in July, retail slot machine revenue totaled $213.9 million, and retail table games generated $86.6 million. In addition, $71.9 million was generated from online slot machines, $23.8 million from online table games and $2.7 million from online poker.

Video gaming terminals generated $3.6 million, and fantasy contests brought in $858,569, data show.

Retail and online sports wagering generated $25.4 million.
