Penn National Adds To Its Casino Dominance In The State On Wednesday

Penn National Gaming is opening its third casino in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. The 80,000-square-foot facility will be called Hollywood Casino Morgantown. It will open three days before Christmas. Penn National has 16 casinos in the state. The company has been expanding operations before the COVID pandemic. Its fourth casino is called the Hollywood casino at The Meadows south of Pittsburgh. Hollywood casinos at Penn and York have been profitable.
Pennsylvania is expected to have five mini-casinos as a result of broad 2017 gaming expansion legislation. Live! Pittsburgh opened in Westmoreland County prior to Hollywood Casino York. Two more are in the planning stages, by Parx Casino in Cumberland and by private developer Ira Lubert in partnership with Bally’s Corp. in Centre County. Penn National built Hollywood casino Morgantown from the ground up on vacant land near the intersection of the Pennsylvania Turnpike with two other highways.
Penn National opened Morgantown casino on Wednesday. The new venue is built from the ground up instead of in renovated mall space. It has a full complement of 750 slots and 30 table games, a sportsbook, Barstool Sportsbook and sports bar, two restaurants for sandwiches and Asian food, and terraces. New staff at Morgantsown have been able to get hands-on training at the sister mini-casino in York and at Penn National's flagship property in Grantville. The company has been happy to build its data base with nearby Maryland customers.
