BENSALEM, PA — Even before new coronavirus restrictions shut down casinos in Pennsylvania, fewer people were gambling at Parx Casino in Bensalem last month.

Revenues at Parx were off more than $4 million in November compared to November 2019, according to figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The $50.2 million Parx earned was down about 7.5 percent from the $54.3 million brought in last year.

That drop would have been even more dramatic if it weren't for internet gaming, which brought nearly $60 million to Pennsylvania casinos in November compared to just $9.6 million last year.

At Parx, slots revenues were down more than $7 million and table games revenue was down about $2.5 million. At all Pennsylvania casinos, slots revenues were down more than 31 percent from November 2019, while table games were off nearly 30 percent.

Last week, with new coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths surging after the Thanksgiving holiday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced a new set of COVID-19 restrictions scheduled to run through Jan. 4.

Among the restrictions is a ban on indoor dining, as well as the closure of facilities like casinos and indoor gyms.

"We look forward to seeing you back at Parx Casino once we are allowed to safely reopen," the casino said in a social media post on Dec. 11, the day before the closure. "In the mean time, good luck playing with us online."
