Lawmakers in Oregon have agreed to take a look at gambling expansion. The new committee will be made up of eight people. It will consider the impact of expanding current gambling laws on the likes of Tribal governments and Oregonians struggling with addiction.
Oregon Lottery is a major source of revenue for the state. The Lotteries has been pushing for online gambling expansion. Private gambling interests are also interested in having operations in the region. Governor Kate Brown instructed the Lotters to pause any discussions about gambling.
Oregon Lawmakers are considering a review of gambling legislation. The state's nine tribes rely on casino revenue to fund vital services in their communities. Some tribes have already welcomed the formation of the new committee. Senate President Peter Courtney believes that a long-overdue review is long overdue.
