Online Gambling Bill To Ban Online Rummy Gambling TN Approved By Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi gave assent to the ordinance to regulate online gambling games. The Tamil Nadu cabinet approved an ordinance to ban online games in September. 

According to a report on ABP Nadu, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi provided assent to the online ordinance on Friday. 

The Governor provided nod for the ordinance on October 1. It was then published in the Gazette on Friday.

Tamil Nadu government is likely to take the next course of action to pass a Bill and make it a permanent Act during the Assembly session which is set to commence on October 17. 

Earlier, Tamil Nadu government moved Madras High Court after the court gave a judgment striking down a ban on online gambling passed by the then AIADMK government in August 2021. In the previous ordinance, the state had also levied a fine of Rs 5,000 and six months imprisonment to the people who were engaged in the gambling games.

In June, a young woman killed herself after she lost all the money and jewelry to online gambling, She lost 20 sovereigns of jewelry and Rs 3 lakh of cash. She was survived by her husband and two children aged three and one. 

A constable in Coimbatore armed city forced died after losing money in online gambling.  Nagarajan, a painting contractor in Chennai, also died by suicide. He was unable to bear the debt trap after losing money in the games.
