Oakland A’s ownership is clearly counting down the days until they can get out of the Coliseum. They have been wanting to abandon the A’s long time home for decades now, aiming to have their own ballpark on the waterfront. However, despite all the movement that has been made on that front, there is no guarantee that the Howard Terminal Project will come to pass.

That is, in part, why the A’s have been pursuing their parallel path for a stadium in Las Vegas. While it is far more likely that the A’s are pursuing this path in an attempt to bilk Oakland out of as much money as possible, they have been transparent that they will be seeking a place in the desert as well.

Oakland A’s getting ready to announce Las Vegas site

It has also been clear that the A’s are serious about their interest in Las Vegas. They have publically stated that they have made offers on several potential stadium sites, and were hoping to announce a final destination soon.

That announcement is coming. The A’s have reportedly narrowed down their search to five areas, all of which are located in the strip. One of those sites would have the stadium integrated with a new hotel and casino, further tying together MLB’s marriage to sports gambling. On top of that, an announcement as to which site the A’s are going to pick is expected in the next two to four weeks.

It is also fair to wonder how serious the A’s really are about staying in Oakland. They have said all the right things, and Dave Kaval is essentially responding to everything by saying “This is why we need Howard Terminal,” but actions speak louder than words. In the A’s case, their continued pursuit of Las Vegas, even if it is to make certain that they have somewhere to be in 2025, Is not doing them any favors in the court of public opinion.

The Oakland A’s are getting ready to announce their preferred stadium site in Las Vegas. It is just a matter of weeks until that happens.
