The planned Hollywood Casino in York County will open next month, Penn National Gaming Inc. said Monday.

The gaming company said the new casino is expected to open to the public on Aug. 12. The casino is located in the York Galleria mall in Springettsbury Township.

The planned opening date is subject to final regulatory approvals but if all goes as planned, the casino will open its doors in a month.

“The countdown to our grand opening begins today,” Ruben Warren, vice president and general manager for Hollywood Casino York, said in a press release. “We’re very excited to soon welcome patrons to this beautiful new property, where they’ll be able to experience premier gaming, dining and entertainment.”

The new casino is one of the Pennsylvania’s new “mini casinos.” With roughly 80,000 square feet, the Hollywood Casino York will offer 500 slot machines and 24 table games; the casino has sufficient capacity to move up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games in the future.

Penn National said the new York County casino will also offer a Barstool Sportsbook and race book; “Diner & Drinks”, a casual restaurant and bar; and a grab-and-go eatery dubbed the “Classic Grill.”

Penn National Gaming operates its Hollywood Casino in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County. The new casino at the Galleria is aimed at drawing customers from York and Lancaster counties and also protecting the company from losing business to other gaming rivals in an increasingly crowded market. Penn National also operates a casino near Pittsburgh: The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington.

By the end of the year, Penn National Gaming plans to open its fourth casino in Pennsylvania: the Hollywood Casino Morgantown just outside of Reading and adjacent to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Penn National said the casino in Berks County will open later this year but didn’t offer more specifics.

Before Hollywood Casino York has its grand opening on Aug. 12, the company plans to offer two “test days” which will be open to guests by invitation only. The company said the proceeds on the test days will be donated to various charitable organizations, including York County Veterans Outreach, York County Food Bank, Mr. Sandy’s Veterans Helping Hand and local VFWs and American Legion posts.

“We are thrilled to be supporting the work of these incredible organizations in York County,” Warren said in the news release.

The casino is hiring for scores of positions. Those interested can visit the Hollywood Casino York Career Center, located on the lower level of the York Galleria Mall, adjacent to the casino. Job seekers can also go to the company’s website to learn more or apply for positions.
