Nevada has awarded the first prizes for its vaccination lottery.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has handed out the first prizes for the state's vaccination lottery this week. The government-run scheme aims to reward Nevadans for getting their inoculations. This week, four participants won $25,000, one bagged $50,00 and another took home the top prize of $250, 000.

Elizabeth from North Las Vegas won the top prize in the COVID-19 lottery. Nevada has seen a rise in positive COID-20 cases and hospitalizations recently.

Vegas reopens and there is a rise in coronavirus hospitalizations in Nevada. The number of hospitalization has risen 62% in the last 14 days. Governor Sisolak ended all COVID restrictions on June 1. The government urges Nevada residents to get their vaccinations. There has been a coronvirus pandemic in Las Vegas since March last year.

Nevada is offering a vaccination lottery to increase vaccination rates. The lottery will be open every week until August 29th. Other states have also offered vaccination lotteries. Ohio's lottery was unsuccessful as vaccination rate was below 50%.
