Military Personnel 3.5x More Prone to Problem Gambling

68.6% of active service members are prone to problem gambling, compared to 18.7% in the regular population. 70% have traits linked to gambling. The study was presented at the International Center for Responsible Gaming Conference on Gambling and Addiction in Las Vegas.
Military Personnel 3.5 times more prone to problem gambling than non-military personnel. The study was funded by Kindbridge Research Institute and DraftKings and Playtech. Kindbrid Research is at the front of research and treatment for military veterans suffering from gambling addiction. The research needs to be more comprehensive and representative. The US Department of Defense operates over 3,000 slot machines on various overseas military bases earning a combined annual revenue of around $100m. The DoD requires only one of the ten responsible gambling policies recommended by the American Gaming Association, while the average number of responsible policies required in the other 35 states was just over seven. Military personnel are 3.5 times more prone to problem gambling than civilians.
