The Meghalaya government has backtracked on the controversial plan to set up three casinos in the state. The government will first take the people into confidence before setting up casinos. However, the existing gaming parlours will continue to be regulated. The Joint Action Committee Against Casino has called a public meeting in Nongpoh on September 23 to decide on further course of action. It is expected to discuss the issue of the government's decision to issue three temporary licences to run casinos and the regulation of gaming. For the past 20-25 years, traditional gambling has been going on in Meghanalayas.
