Friday is another chance to start the new year with a lot more money. There’s another huge Mega Millions drawing, this time for $940 million.

If someone from Michigan wins, this would be the second largest jackpot ever to be won in the state.

The first largest was in 2021 when an Oakland County Lottery Club won a jackpot worth $1.5 billion, which was also the fifth largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

For many party stores and gas stations, a large and growing jackpot also means foot traffic.

“It’s close to a billion. So now we get people that really maybe play it once a year will come out for it, but the people that do play it every week, they will usually spend about five times more than normal,” Kurt Beachnau, Owner of Lyman’s on the Lake Resort, said.
