Louisiana Parish Voters Reject $325m Slidell Casino Plan. Residents of St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana have voted against plans to build a major casino resort in the city of Slidello. Peninsula Pacific Entertainment has a Northwest Louisiana casino license. It has tried for a number of years to transfer this license to the southeast of Louisiana.

Peninsula Pacific Entertainment wants to move its casino license in 2021. The Louisiana legislature blocked it in 2018, but it gained more traction in the St. Tammany Parish Council. Many state and local elected officials had backed the casino project. However, the parish is home to a number of officials who rallied against the idea of the new casino development.

Peninsula Pacific Entertainment laid off 349 workers at the Bossier City DiamondJacks casino resort in October. The company decided to close the casino in May 2020. St. Tammany voters rejected the company's proposal to relocate the business to Slidell. Peninsula Pacific owns other casinos in Iowa, Virginia and New York.
