Pickering’s long-awaited casino has opened its doors.

The casino portion of Pickering Casino Resort opened July 26, with the remainder of the resort expected to open in 2022.

When COVID-19 restrictions lift, the new casino will offer about 2,400 slot machines, just under 100 live table games and about 140 "live dealer" stadium gaming terminals,

In this first phase of opening a limited number of slot machines and tables games are open to ensure physical distancing.

"The opening of the casino at Pickering Casino Resort is yet another step towards our company's recovery from the impact of COVID-19 and means another 600 jobs created in the Durham Region in this first phase of the property's opening," says Terrance Doyle, interim CEO at Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, which also operates Durham’s other two casinos — Casino Ajax and Great Blue Heron Casino.

Reservations are not required to visit the Pickering casino. Walk-ups are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, occupancy permitting.

When Pickering Casino Resort is completed, it will include a 2,500-seat theatre, 350-seat entertainment lounge, several restaurants and a hotel tower with 275 rooms and a spa.
