Little River Casino Resort closed voluntarily on 22 November. The shutdown will last until 9 December.

The casino’s management said the decision to shut the venue down was to help curb the spread of the COVID-19. “We are supportive of our leaders and the healthcare officials who are the real heroes during this fight. We know that the initiatives taken by them, along with the support of us and the community, will help to get this situation under control.”

Previously, the casino was to remain open during the three-week lockdown in the state of Michigan, since the tribal casinos are not required to follow the state’s orders. The casino was to operate at a limited 25% capacity with reduced working hours; table games were to be closed as well, with some restaurants offering takeout only. The limited operations were to last until 8 December.

The first closure the casino announced was scheduled to start on 24 November, with the hotel remaining operational and the gaming floor closed. However, according to the latest news, the shutdown now affects both hotel and the casino.

The adjusted shutdown closure might be due to the two positive COVID-19 cases that were detected within the Government Center and reported on 18 November.
