JetBlue snags second Heathrow slot
Super Slots

JetBlue appears to have secured a second permanent daily slot at London’s Heathrow Airport beginning in Summer 2023. This allows the carrier to operate double daily flights into one of the most difficult markets to secure access.

The carrier secured its first permanent daily slot at Heathrow last June for flights this winter. It is operating a second flight via a slot leased from Qatar Airways. Its remaining three daily flights to London this winter operate to Gatwick airport.

The allocation to JetBlue covers year-round operations, allowing it to continue using the slots in the winter season as well. The filing suggests JetBlue will operate double daily between Heathrow and New York’s JFK airport. Additional service to Boston, if offered, would come from a borrowed/leased slot.

The carrier did not apply for additional slots at Gatwick. It will keep the existing double daily permanent slots previously allocated. As with Heathrow, additional operations are available via leased slots.

Other airlines allocated additional slots at Heathrow include: Vistara, China Airlines, and WestJet.

Across town at Gatwick, Norse Airlines secured the largest pool of slots. The filings suggest service will operate to Fort Lauderdale, New York-JFK, Los Angeles, and Orlando.

Lufthansa also scored slots for double daily service. AirAsia X secured slots to operate 10x weekly into London (it had requested double daily) from Kuala Lumpur, while Delta Air Lines also snagged slots to support daily service from JFK.

British Airways will augment its service to Vancouver, adding 3x weekly from Gatwick, on top of daily service from Heathrow. Bamboo Airways secured slots allowing 1x weekly service each to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Slot allocations do not guarantee the airlines will operate the flights. But without the slots, the flights are not possible.
