Indonesia to Continue Blocking Illegal Gambling Activities, Minister Says

Indonesia will continue blocking illegal gambling activities. Minister for communication and information technology Johnny G Plate says it takes a lot of work to check if these types of systems are legitimate.

There are over 500,000 illegal sites blocked in Indonesia since 2018. The ministry of communication and information technology is trying to eradicate online gambling. It is also trying not to harm people's digital literacy. The mission is hard as for every site that authorities shut down, many more appear in its place.

Central Java Police arrested 34 people last Thursday and Friday. Six of them are suspected of running an illegal online gambling ring in Bojongsari district. One of the suspects developed their skills in Cambodia and used them to run the ring. Thailand is considering opening casino resorts at the end of 2021. Cambodia recently renewed 70 gaming licenses with the goal of revitalizing the gambling industry.
