Indiana Casino Win Rebounds To $221.1 Million For July

The Indiana Gaming Commission reported casino win totaling $221.1 million for the month of July, as the state’s 10 casinos and two racinos had a sharp-bounce back from June thanks to strong growth in slots revenue.
The Hoosier State’s 12 venues reported overall month-over-month increases, with nine posting gains 10% or better as they ended a three-month run of declines from March’s high-water mark of $235.2 million for the year. The figure represented a 10.8% increase from June, but also a 3.8% decline from July 2021, when the venues produced $229.8 million in casino win.
There was $14.1 million in free play credits furnished by the houses, and other adjustments left the state eligible to tax $201.2 million of the casino win. The wagering and supplemental taxes totaled just over $30 million and does not include the nearly $2 million collected from the $20.9 million in operator revenue generated from sports wagering.
Baccarat a table-setter for Hard Rock
Statewide table games revenue climbed 2.8% from June to nearly $39.7 million, while the per table average increased 3.1% to $60,442. Hard Rock continues to be the top venue in Indiana in this category, generating $11.9 million in revenue and dragging the average per table higher with an average of $154,725 drawn from 77 spots.
Baccarat once more gave Hard Rock separation from other casinos and racinos. Its $28 million drop at 23 tables was more than the total table drop at every other venue in the state except Horseshoe Hammond, which had an overall drop of $28.6 million. Hard Rock’s $6.7 million in baccarat win would have led all venues in Indiana had it been the sole source of table games revenue at the Gary location.
Horseshoe Hammond and Caesars Indianapolis rounded out the podium spots for table games revenue at $5.9 million and $4.7 million, respectively. Though Caesars Southern Indiana was the only other casino to exceed $4 million, its $4.1 million claimed from 87 tables was 10.3% lower than the $4.6 million generated in June
Harrah’s Hoosier Park ($70,768) in Anderson, Ameristar ($69,281) in East Chicago, and Bally’s ($64,366) in Evansville also exceeded the state average in revenue per table, and Horseshoe Indianapolis ($51,446) was the only other venue to clear $50,000 per table. Hard Rock and Horseshoe Indianapolis were the only locations to generate at least 20% of their casino win via table games, with Hard Rock again the only venue to exceed 30%. Table games revenue accounted for 17.9% of total casino win, the lowest percentage of the year.
Slots wins over $180 million for third time in 2022
Slots revenue in Indiana surged 15.4% to $181.4 million, despite 98 fewer machines being operational compared to June. Venues averaged $12,459 per slot position, approximately $1,670 higher than June.
Caesars Indianapolis prevented Hard Rock from pulling off a table games-slots games double for revenue, generating $25.9 million in winnings while also leading all venues with a $16,780 per position total. Hard Rock was a close second at $24.9 million, averaging $15,120, and Horseshoe Hammond rounded out the venues that cleared $20 million, totaling just shy of $22.9 million from its state-high 1,704 positions.
Two venues, Belterra in Florence and Rising Star in Rising Sun, had more than 90% of their respective revenue totals originate from slots. Belterra, however, generated $11.9 million thanks to 1,440 positions on the premises. Seven venues generated at least $11,000 per slots position and four topped $15,000.
