Illegal gambling site in Phnom Penh shut down by authorities

Police cracked down on one of the numerous online gambling sites in Phnom Penh.

An online gambling site located at Champou One 2 Village, Sangkat Choam Chao III, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh was raided by authorities from Sangkat Choam Chao. The raid took place on the afternoon of October 17.

According to reports from people living in the area, the gambling location is a haven for online gamblers and cockfighting. People have been gathering in the location to gamble without fear of the spreading Covid-19. People in the area reported what was taking place in the above location.

After receiving the tip off from residents of the area, the police force, led by Chief of Choam Chao III Commune, Va Savoeun, raided the gambling site and discovered the illegal gambling taking place. In the raid, police confiscated a large number of items, but they were not able to capture the gamblers.

Currently, the above location has been shut down and the owner of the building is called on by authorities to make a contract to cease the activity.
