Study: Gray machines pose risks, but has millions in revenue potential. Study recommends the Virginia Lottery oversee all types of gaming in the state. Report notes crimes such as assault and robbery have increased at establishments with gray machines. The study was based on information gathered between July 2020 and June 2021 when the games were temporarily allowed and the ABC collected $1,200 per machine per month in tax revenues. Virginia regulators set requirements on payout percentages from electronic gaming machines, for example, requires slot machines have an average payout between 84% and 100%.

There are currently six historic horse racing locations with two more under construction. Historic horse race games account for $3.2 billion in wagers. A portion of historic race revenues are distributed to support equine racing industry. It's estimated that by 2025, the total wager in Vinton will reach $21 billion. there are 870 slot machines in Bristol Casino and 2,600 historic racing games deployed statewide.

New Hampshire's Boston Billiard Club & Casino installs 50 HHR gaming machines. Delaware North completed its purchase of Boston. The company plans to install more than 300 HHR gaming devices by December. It will also add 20 new jobs and preserve 200 existing ones. The casino donates a portion of its profits to local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. New Hampshire last year passed legislation to allow H HR gaming at licensed gaming operations. In addition, Delaware's gaming business includes owning and operating casinos and other gaming. operations in what is now eight states: New York, New. Hampshire, West Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas and Australia.

Study shows Petersburg and Richmond could sustain casino's together. Petersburg is primed for gaming, according to the study. The study was presented to State Lawmakers Monday. If Petersburg opens a casino by 2027 within its first year of operation, it would generate $204 million in gaming revenue, over $12.2 million for the city and about $ 12.3 million state taxes.

Cordish Companies is the preferred operator of a proposed casino in Petersburg. The Petersburg City Council approved the choice on Tuesday night. Neither the city nor the company have revealed details about the casino. Petersburg will submit the project to city voters next year for approval in a referendum. Richmond voters rejected a proposal to build a casino last year. The company is a veteran casino developer, operating casino resorts in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and two Florida cities under the "Live! Casino & Hotel" brand. Gov. Glenn Youngkin is pushing a combination of new and existing initiatives to revitalize the economically struggling, majority Black city.

Report: Virginia Lottery should be state’s primary gambling regulator. Report: The state could have financially viable casinos in Petersburg, Richmond, or both cities. The report also found that the Virginia Racing Commission doesn't have the staff to carry out its regulatory mission. By 2025, when four casinos are expected to be open, total wagering could grow to $21 billion. In 2018, roughly $3.4 billion was wagered on state lottery games, charitable gaming, and traditional horse racing. That number grew steadily as the state approved more ways to gamble.

There are only four regulators overseeing entire horse racing industry in Virginia. The industry is booming, but the regulators are understaffed and unprepared to regulate it. The state needs at least 15 employees to oversee the current HHR facilities. There are planned facilities in the state that will increase the number of regulators to 22. It is estimated that the industry will grow to $13 billion this year. Hhr machines are the biggest driver of revenue in V.C. and have increased in popularity since 2018. They are similar to slot machines. Their mechanics are different.

A study found that a Richmond casino would generate about $300 million and 2,000 jobs. It would also reduce the number of new jobs by about 300. The General Assembly voted in 2020 to legalize casino gambling in five cities, including Richmond. The study estimates that all four casinos would earn about $55 million less if Petersburg were to open a casino. A Petersburg casino also reduces revenue from historical horse racing operations by $46 million. Virginia's state gaming tax revenues would rise from $103.5 million to $115.8 million with a Casino in Petersburg and to to more than $130 million if an additional casino opened in Richmond, but those totals include reduced revenues at the other four.

House committee approves a legislative package related to legalized gambling in Kentucky. The package includes legalizing sports wagering, banning unregulated gambling machines, modernizing pari-mutuel waggering statutes, and creating a fund to fight gambling addiction. House Bill 606 seeks to legalize most forms of sports betting and regulate the taxation of all online gambling including fantasy sports and online poker. House bill 608 would prohibit gambling machine not associated with the Kentucky Lottery, charitable gaming or historical horse racing. It would also ban "gray machines" or skill game machines. Some lawmakers and legal experts question their legality.

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month. The Virginia Council on Problem gambling is working with the Virginia Lottery to raise awareness. There is a helpline available at 1-888-532-3500. The call is confidential and available 24/7 by phone, text, or chat. Online sports betting, charitable gaming, and horse racing are included in the VEP. It is funded by the Lotteries. They promote responsible play. Their role has expanded to include licensing and regulation of sports wagering and casinos.

Churchill Downs Incorporated will buy the parent company of Colonial Downs for $2.485 billion. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2022. CDI will fund the deal through a combination of new debt and cash on hand. Some of the cash will come from the sale of land near Calder Casino in Florida.

Potential Cedar Rapids casino operator sells some assets to Churchill Downs Inc. Peninsula Pacific Entertainment is selling its Sioux City casino and other properties to the company. The deal is between Churchill and Peninsula. P2E was founded in 1999 as the holding company for Peninsula Gaming, which owned the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque. It was sold in 2012 to Boyd Gaming Corp. in a $1.45 billion deal. Jonathan Swain, president of P 2E, said the deal does not change investors’ plans to secure a gaming license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to build a casino in Linn County.

Oregon Attorney General's office finds that The Flying Lark's proposed gaming machines would constitute an illegal casino. The opinion was issued at the request of Jack McGrail, executive director of the Oregon Racing Commission. Tribal criticism has been that the FlyingLark will essentially turn it into a casino under the constitution. The HHRs are games of chance that do not afford players any meaningful opportunity to exercise skill. Lotteries are constitutionally prohibited in Oregon unless they are run by the State Lottery. Supporters of The Larks say that losing the Hhrs would hurt the local economy.

Churchill Downs Inc. has signed an agreement to sell 115.7 acres of land near Calder Casino in Miami Gardens, Florida, for $291 million. The company will retain ownership of 54 acres on the current 170-acre parcel of the Calder casino. It also agreed to buy the Arlington International Racecourse in Illinois for a total of 326 acres. The sales come as Churchill is embarking on new major investments and projects. In August, the company announced three major capital investments to transform key areas at the home of Kentucky Derby. This will begin with the Homestretch Club for Kentucky derby in 2022 and culminate with a Paddock area redesign for the 150th running of derby.

The Dumfries Town Council approved a development project in September 21, 2021. The project will replace the Potomac Landfill with an 80-acre public park, hotel accommodations, gaming establishments, restaurants, and cultural arts spaces. It will also create 640 new jobs. Rosie's Gaming Emporium opened in January. The Rose will be a larger gaming facility with a workforce development facility for their employees. Its focus is its 150 historical horse-racing betting machines. In the second phase, the project is tentatively slated for a 2025 or 2026 opening.

Churchill Downs wants to build a historical horse racing venue in downtown Louisville. The company submitted an application to the city planning service. It needs city approval. The building is designated as an individual landmark and in a downtown district. Churchill hasn't yet purchased the property. U.S. Bank is the building's owner. Historical racing resembles slot machines. State lawmakers voted to legalize them earlier this year.

Mint Gambling Hall is expanding to Bowling Green. The building permit application was filed in July. It calls for a $6.2 million renovation of a building in the Greenwood Market Place Shopping Center. A previous application for the same building was rejected by the planning commission. Kentucky General Assembly passed and signed legislation to legalize the HHR machines. Senate Bill 120 changed the definition of pari-mutuel wagering to include betting on historical races.

Colonial Downs Group Inc. has received approval from the Dumfries Planning Commission to build a gaming property in the city. If everything goes well, the old landfill could start being converted into a casino sometime during the second quarter of next year.

Kentucky Supreme Court denied the Horse Racing industry's appeal to allow historical horse racing at their gambling venues. Lawmakers are being pressured to change the definition of parimutuel so that video slot machines can remain. The tracks face a lot of costs and a loss of tax revenue. Churchill Downs and Keeneland made a huge bet and it didn't come out well.

Virginia is one of 10 states that have no casinos. The state Senate and House of Delegates have approved a bill that would permit casinos in five cities and a slot machine palace in Prince William County. It was passed by a compromise between Democrats and Republicans. The bill is supported by deep-pocketed gambling outfits. They want to help push the legislation through. State Sen. L. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) has been fighting the suspicion for 25 years. She is convinced that a casino would inject new life into her struggling city.
