Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission approved Harrah's Nebraska's application for a provisional gaming license. Caesars Entertainment plans to build a temporary casino at the Platte County Agricultural Park, east of Columbus, and a permanent casino northwest of the downtown area. Construction of temporary casinos will begin in a few weeks. Permanent casinos are scheduled to open in March 2024.

Columbus qualified to have a casino through Nebraska's 2022 legalization of commercial gaming. Harrah's Nebraska will open a temporary casino in March 2023 and a permanent one-mile horse racetrack in 2024. The permanent casino will cost $75 million and feature a 40,000-square-foot casino with 20 table games, 400 slot machines and retail sportsbook.

Columbus Exposition and Racing Inc. chose Caesars Entertainment to develop its casino in July 2021. WarHorse Casino Lincoln opened in September this year. Harrah’s Nebraska plans to open Temporary Casino in March 2023 and Permanent Casino to Open in 2024.
