Germany Should Introduce Watershed Gambling Advertising Ban

Germany's Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) is calling for a watershed ban on gambling advertising. Around 229,000 adult Germans are showing signs of problem gambling and around 200,00 are pathological gamblers. The fourth State Treaty on Gambling came into force on July 1, 2021. The BZGA supports calls for online programs that would lead to changes in gambling behavior. It also supports the introduction of a gambling ad ban before 9 pm on both TV and the internet.
The BZgA is promoting the "Check Your Game" campaign. It offers online self-test to check if a person's gambling behavior is unproblematic. People who show signs of problem gambling are offered to take the free online behavior change program called " check-your-game". pathological gambling is recognized as a "gambling disorder" and offered support in the form of individual e-mail counseling and online counseling programs.
