At the Movies is a 25-payline 3D online slot game designed by BetSoft with the film-loving slots player in mind. Unfortunately, this is hardly the best title in the BetSoft catalogue and, we might dare say, not one of the better movie-themed slots available out there, either.
The reels are filled with various movie-centric memorabilia such as magazines and the Academy Award (sort of; its likeness is trademarked, after all) alongside trappings of the cinema like popcorn and stills from fake movies – there’s “Little Shop of Horrors”-looking plant life, an evil-looking animated character and a spaceship probably from some Mars flick. (Which, as John Carter recently demonstrated, is simply not a popular theme among even sci-fi audiences.)
The comedy/tragedy masks – funny, we could’ve sworn that was a theatre hallmark – icon is wild; the projector is the scatter. Landing two scatters on the reels earns 50 credits, will three, four or five win eight, 12, or 20 free spins, respectively. Said free spins round is more than a tease as the animation takes you from the opening silver-screen format to … another movie screen with exactly the same symbols and no possibility of retriggering the spins.
All in all, this one’s not quite as frustratingly bad as, say, The Matrix 3, but it’s close.
