Gambling Corporation Las Vegas Sands Plans to Create a New Casino in Florida. The proposal was rejected by lawmakers in 2012. Now the company is focusing on expansion potentials in Georgia. Seminole Tribe has opposed the expansion in the Sunshine State.

Gambling company Las Vegas Sands failed to get 90,000 votes to pass a constitutional amendment change in favor of building a new casino in Northern Florida. The company spent $73 million on the signature-gathering process and the Seminole Tribe spent about $40 million opposing the proposal. Florida's election officials deemed the petition signed in support of a change to contain falsified signatures.

The Seminoles have been involved in a legal dispute with the body that supports the movement. The body accused the Seminole's of paying signature gatherers by the number of petitions collected. They dropped the suit on January 31st and asked the judge to extend the February 1 deadline.

The CEO of Las Vegas Sands, Rob Goldstein, thinks the company will be in Florida in the early innings. The petition to build a casino in that state is invalid after this year's election. If the group decides to try again in 2024, it will need new signatures.

The Florida Voters in Charge Committee is winding down its efforts for the 2022 election cycle. The body has submitted two proposals to the Florida Division of Elections. One proposal is to request existing card rooms with active licenses to offer casino betting. Another proposal would allow them to seek voters’ approval for up to three new casino resorts built at least 100 miles away from the Seminole tribe's casinos. The Seminoles are the state”s sole operators of gambling resorts in the southern portion of Florida.

The Las Vegas Sands' proposal to create land-based betting houses and invest in digital gaming technology in Florida may have failed. Another initiative to authorize online sports wagering statewide, at professional sports venues and pari-mutuel facilities failed this year.
