When Las Vegas casinos are mentioned, people think back to the glamor days of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The Flamingo casino was built on the site owned by one of the city's earliest settlers. Mobster Bugsy Siegel was the first owner of it in 1946. It has been a mecca for the big entertainers, including Judy Garland and Bobby Darin in the 1950s, Jerry Lee Lewis and Tom Jones in 1960s. The main headline show was Donny and Marie Osmond's show, which sold around 9 million tickets in an 11-year run.

The Dunes resort opened in 1955 and was the tenth resort on the world famous Strip. It was passed around a number of owners in its early days. The resort was first resort to offer topless dancing showgirls and it was also the setting for one of the first golf courses in Las Vegas. In 1965 it opened a new 21-storey tower, but it closed in 1993.

Stardust was the world's largest hotel with over 1,000 rooms opening in 1958. Howard Hughes was interested in buying the place in the 1960s, but it didn't happen. The place closed in 2006.

The Desert Inn was one of the first resorts and casinos on the Strip and was very popular with locals and out of town visitors. Frank Sinatra made his Vegas debut there and celebrated his 77th birthday there.

Sinatra played at the Sands in 1953. He was playing there with Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. They were instrumental in desegregating Las Vegas. The Sands was demolished in 1996 to make way for the $1.5 billion mega-resort The Venetian.
