These markers would be used by casinos to flag players who show early signs of problem gambling. Today operators, especially in heavily regulated markets, do use tools to spot addictive behavior, but there’s no general set of standards.
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), backed by academics and experts, calls for the European Committee for Standardisation to put together a list of markers. The EGBA secretary general thinks it’s a common-sense proposal that is important for improving player protection.
The move must first be approved by the standardization bodies of European countries. Then the process of determining the problem gambling markers can begin.
