Crown Resorts may be on the verge of opening its real-money casino component of its $2.2 billion Crown Sydney Hotel Resort in the next weeks.

Crown's casino operations were suspended after an investigation led by former Supreme Court judge Patricia Bergin. The investigation alleged that Crown engaged in money laundering, violated gambling laws, and partnered with junket operators linked to drug traffickers, money launderers, human traffickers and organized crime groups. Crown is expected to be allowed to begin gambling on a conditional basis within the next few weeks.

Crown Corporation retained its Melbourne casino license in October 2021. Crown is awaiting the final report of the Perth casino royal commission, which is scheduled for March 4, 2022. AUSTRAC is investigating potential violations of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws at Crown's Melbourne and Perth casinos.
