A Cork man has scooped over half a million Euro in a popular online Lottery site - as Ireland's National Lottery's big jackpot continues to roll over.

Brendan Murphy, a building contractor from just outside Macroom has won a total of €580,015 on the online gaming site Lottoland, which is licenced in Ireland to allow players her to try over 40 national lotteries from around the world.

The father-of-three says he was playing the game online and was in 'total shock' when he realised that he had won. Brendan says he has spent the last week celebrating with family and friends.

“It took a bit of a while. When the wheel was spinning, it just landed on the Jumbo Jackpot and I had to kinda look and I said ‘Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God’.

"It's still unbelievable, to be honest.”

Brendan had only been playing because he had been forced to miss his brother's wedding because of Covid concerns.

He decided not to overshadow the family celebrations with his own big news, and only told his wife Deirdre, keeping the big reveal for the wedding party until they joined the double celebrations on their return to Cork.

Brendan and his family haven’t had much of a chance to make plans yet, although one purchase has been decided by the boss of the house early on.

“I think my wife wants to buy a new Jeep alright! But yeah, we'll just have to have a serious sit-down. It’s a super amount of money - it's life-changing.”

Graham Ross, Country Manager for Lottoland Ireland, said: “We’re just delighted for Brendan and his family that he’s claimed such a massive jackpot prize, becoming Lottoland’s biggest ever winner in Ireland in the process.

"Not much can make up for missing your younger brother’s wedding but winning €580,015.20 at Christmas time must go pretty close!”

Lottoland allows players to go online and take a chance on big lotteries in the US, Spain, the Euromillions and elsewhere. They operate out of Gibralter but have a remote license from the Department of Justice in Ireland.
