KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested two men for allegedly being involved in activities linked to an online gambling syndicate.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the men were arrested in two raids conducted on Wednesday (July 28) evening by the district police's Anti Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Department (D7) personnel.

"They arrested two men, aged 45 and 70, in these raids who are believed to be online gambling agents. Our checks revealed they had been operating in the Kepong and Jinjang area for at least two months," he said in a statement on Friday (July 30).

He said the syndicate would operate along the five-foot walkway in front of shop lots and used mobile phones as their medium of transaction.

"As agents, they would get a basic salary and their takings would be collected by another suspect who has already been identified,” said ACP Beh.

"We seized two mobile phones, two sim cards and about RM135 in cash," he added, saying that both suspects have been detained at the Sentul police headquarters for further investigations.

He said they were investigating the case under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act for announcing that a place is opened, kept or used as a common gaming house.

"We advise the public to refrain from taking part in unhealthy activities such as online gambling.

Those with information on such activities can contact the Sentul police operations centre at 03-40482206," he said.
