Catawba Nation in North Carolina Opens Two Kings Casino

Tomorrow, July 1, 2021, the Catawba Nation will be in a celebratory mood. The brand is slated to open a temporary gambling platform, going by the name Two Kings Casino.
At noon, state, federal, and local officials will join the brand’s officials to launch the opening. This marks the Catawba Nation’s first operations of a casino in North Carolina.
The temporary Two Kings Casino Resort is situated 10 minutes from the I-77 corridor in Kings Mountain, Southeast North Carolina. The brand released a brief explaining that the gaming entertainment facility will start by offering 500 slot games.
These machines will be spread over a 14700 square foot floor, constructed with 29 modular trailers. The property is welcoming food trucks. However, there will be an on-site service bar and snack bar at the property. The Two Kings Casino has a designated area for smokers. Thus, the gaming area will be a no-smoke zone.
Catawba Nation started by hosting a ceremony worth remembering for years, barely a year ago. However, the construction at the casino began 90 days ago. The 17-acre property will start with 250 employees, including those helping with slot machines.
According to the brand’s Chief Assistant, 25 percent of the employees are tribal members. Jason Harris was talking to the Rock Hill Herald last week.
A New Casino Means an Economic Engine for the City
Catawba Nation is not stopping at a temporary gaming facility. Instead, it plans to embark on the construction of a permanent structure later this year. This will happen beside the temporary property.
Catawba will invest approximately $273 million to build a permanent structure, which might take up to one year to complete. This will improve the casino’s ability to offer over 1800 slot machines, roulette wheels, blackjack, and other casino games.
Catawba tribe is entering the gaming market to seek economic opportunities. It is thus consulting with a tribe based in Delaware North. Yet, other people will also benefit.
For example, upon completing the development of the property, Two Kings Casino Resort will employ 2600 employees. The presence of the casino will also create residential opportunities that might produce up to 4000 jobs. However, officials are hopeful that the casino will create 5000 jobs during the development period.
It Took Eight Years of Hard Work
Two Kings Casino has a tale to tell. The casino took eight years to join physical reality. Initially, Catawba had an opportunity to build a gaming facility on its land in a Charlotte suburb, a few meters from Rock Hill.
But, with the US Department putting the 17 acres of land under the tribe’s trust, Catawba decided to move their casino to Cleveland County. Earlier this year, the North Carolina Governor entered into an agreement with the tribe.
Roy Cooper signed the Class III gaming compact, which Interior officials later signed, barely 60 days later.
Catawba seemed to have a smooth operation until the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians moved to block the Two Kings Casino. However, a judge at the District of Columbia ruled in favor of Catawba.
Bill Harris, a Chief at Catawba, praised the judge’s move. Harris said that the Interior Department had corrected a historical wrong. According to him, this correction allows the Catawba to contribute to the state’s economy. But, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has filed an appeal.
